Cali is Colombia’s third largest city, its self-proclaimed Salsa Capital, and my dad’s hometown. It has summer-like weather all year round and many great places to go dancing. Minh and I spent a couple of days in Cali between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. We spent one afternoon exploring the San Antonio neighborhood, the colonial part of Cali. It reminded me of the Candelaria in Bogota. San Antonio also has a park on a hill that provides great views of the city.
That same afternoon we also visited some of Cali’s churches and plazas. One of Cali’s most famous sites is La Ermita, a gothic-style church located on the river Cali.
The best places to go dancing or out for drinks in Cali are Avenida Sexta and Barrio Granada, both located in the northern part of the city. We spent both of our nights in Cali in Barrio Granada. The first night we went to a Mexican restaurant that had delicious tacos and served enormous margaritas. We sat outside and enjoyed listening to a lot of the music that Minh posted earlier in the blog. Our second night we went to Archie’s, a Colombian pizza chain, with my cousin Laura and her best friend. We were all very impressed with how good the pizza was. After dinner we went to a small bar where Minh and I danced salsa and merengue.
